Before my membership with the CCAA I had thought of painting as connected to my interests and a decorative art but after getting membership with the CCAA, I have realized that painting has deeper concepts than what I had thought before. I have now gotten the reality that the thoughts and emotions of an artist can be expressed by various new and old languages.
Discussions, dialogues and meetings which have been convened about arts, society and arts works in this CCAA have changed the artistic visions of the youth towards arts. Membership in the CCAA has not only affected me in terms of arts but also changed the way of my life because now I have chosen the painting as the motive of my life,

The existence of such arts centers are of a very high importance for improving professional knowledge in Afghanistan and in my point of view increasing the number of artists in Afghanistan means empowering the arts in the country. In my view, the artistic personality is different from ordinary people from the spiritual point of view, the mind of an artist thinks about many questions as “WHY”. I want to follow the new way of artistic expression meaning contemporary and conceptual arts, because it is not single dimensional and is mostly close to poems rather than motto. In this exhibition I have turned to issues related to women’s lives but in spite of that I am thinking of a wider vision in my artistic activities. In painting, using various colors give me a special concept.

Mostly in my paintings I have used squares which maybe taken as limitations and pre set frameworks by viewers but I am sure that viewers will not remain limited to these concepts and will find deeper concepts in these squares. I very much like when I force my viewers to deeply think about my works. In addition, I like painting of portrait and through painting reflect peoples’ characteristics, wishes and pains. I see my success in accessing multilateral goals. One of these aspects is improving the talents of Afghan women. I want the women of my country to benefit from the joys and expressions of arts, the expressions which give the life a meaning.

I used to paint in a very preliminary level for two months before joining the CCAA. Now I have got familiarity with realistic and contemporary arts and could join in this unprecedented exhibition. My activities in painting, especially contemporary painting as my favorite activity and responsibility have special place in my life through which I feel comfortable.
The works which I will display in this exhibition express my deep feelings towards grieves of Afghan women as well as the helplessness of my country.

My works usually have a symbolic expression. Using colors in them have a conceptual expression. This means that all three works reflect the deprivation of Afghan women. The brown and yellow colors are prevalent colors in these works and all have a sole atmosphere and shared colored that transmits a special meaning that this two colors of atmosphere and environment describes the lives of majority of Afghan women. The time they spend all their life in a four-walled room with ceilings covered with wood and from birth to death they are in custody of these brown and yellow colors, and on the other hand I have wanted to express the boring environment and limitation in which majority of women live their life. The life in which there is a rare brightness, happiness and hope.
Fortunately, these three works does not transmit message of grieves and disappointment. In my painting “Crooning for the Sun” with the same color background expresses a hope and a start of a new life. In the other tableau “Old Grief” can also reflect the lives of women as well as broad concepts.

In my view, this exhibition is a considerable change and its aftermath effects would attract the society’s attention to women, foster women’s interest to arts, and would pave the ground for the improvement of contemporary arts new ways of paintings in the country. The CCAA has been able to be a valuable center in this aspect. Of course, the center will return our artistic society to its genuineness in this aspect and will familiarize women with their abilities.

National and international centers can also encourage the participation of a large number of women in arts aspects through establishing intellectual and material facilities but what can bring about successful consequences are efforts, ambition, hard work and the tolerable talent of women a clear example of which is the women arts center of CCAA.

I have been learning painting in this center for the past one year. Looking at my future being member of this centre painting in new styles has opened a new window in my life that made me feel being hopeful about my future, what I have lost during the era of war and misery. I am interested in political and social issues. In the paintings (Out of Border) I have portrayed Afghanistan’s political problems is the cause of change of politics at the international level. I prefer using various elements and issues and use collage in my work.

I am happy to have a part in the exhibition at the early stages of my painting. I request the government to work for the enhancement of such artistic opportunities.

I have learnt arts in Pakistan for three years and here I have been learning in Fine Arts Faculty of Kabul University for four years. I have expressed my feelings in a realistic way but after I got membership in CCAA I practically started modern painting and I was able to turn my dreams to reality in a symbolic way.
I think of myself as a quiet and delicate person where my inner conscience is in contrast with uproar. My inner conscience wants me to help in independence, welfare of every person in the society and also to defend their human rights and identity, fight with fanaticisms and fight for achieving a democrat society.

I have only suffered from one thing in my life which is the lack of real freedom. Unfortunately, this society has never been able to define the meaning of freedom to me. Based on this, most of my artistic works have color of this deprivation.
I have continuously wanted to reflect motives and thoughts through colors and spaces in my paintings, this inner emotion sometimes express shortcomings which have been posed on us during various political regimes from which I have suffered and then have forced me to turn to my own psychology and sometime have mixed both together and as I paint with all these feelings. Colors are the identity and reflectors of my physical appearance and thus can be a clear identification of me.

In my view, women have strengths of thoughts and abilities that have not had the chances to express them. I have been of this group where some elements struggle for my alienation and want to draw a different picture of me. Fortunately, the existence of such centers enables the women to know them and make sure that the society needs their thoughts and ideas and tend the society is incomplete and unsuccessful in their absence.
Also this center has changed the way of thinking for girls and women artists and has provided better opportunities for them to express their thoughts and has given them new strength to work in their profession.

I have always thought that I have lost an everlasting co-walker and a peaceful place. Now I have found the peaceful place, the nature, what can it be but the nature?
When I find myself in it, I forget everything else. Therefore, I want to be the painter of nature because I am in love with natural views and the contemporary and conceptual arts have provided me with better strength of expressing my feelings and thoughts that I can never keep distance from them.

Maybe this strength is the co-walker I have long been searching.

I have had a special interest to painting from my childhood. By joining the Fine Arts Faculty of Kabul University, I created some realistic paintings but after getting the membership of this CCAA, I learnt a lot about contemporary arts and could express my feelings and thoughts in a new way and then found my way through the first contemporary arts exhibition of women which was conducted by this CCAA.
In my view, the existence of such artistic centers and holding such exhibitions has a significant effect on improving the women’s talents and introducing the contemporary arts of the country.

Although our society may have different points of view regarding this exhibition because majority of them do not have required familiarity with contemporary arts and it is difficult for them to recognize the value of arts, but I believe that conduct of such exhibitions will have valuable consequences, and through conduct of such exhibitions and activities, the people’s knowledge of contemporary arts will improve and as such chances for improving the contemporary arts will be provided. In my artistic works which will be displayed in the exhibition, I have focused on international and cross border problems of Afghans which have affected our lives nationally. In such situations, we can say that we should observe the problems of Afghans out of the borders rather than inside the borders. As such, colors in these artistic works are mostly symbolic and conceptual. I have never intended imitating the rules and regulations of optical facts.
I feel more comfortable in modern and contemporary paintings because I can express my favorite concepts easily and in a better manner and I have more freedom in choosing colors.

Sometimes it is impossible for me to express concepts in a realistic way.

I have not only reflected the deprivation and oppression of women but I have mostly tried to invite the viewers of my artistic pieces for a solution of the concept.
In the painting “Secrets” I have invited my viewers to thinking and know the secrets. In this works a violent atmosphere and silence of women show two opposite situations. From one point, if the background would have been quiet and had less color difference, it would have added more to the beauty of the works but I was not intending to reflect the beauty by appearance, as for me in the first step the special concept was not of importance. Therefore, to some extent I have tried to sacrifice its beauty for its concept. A mob of silent women who can be observed near the well sometimes appear as worshipping and sometimes seem to be in a long waiting and also in sorrow. The concept of this works is different from the view point of a politician, a sociologist and psychologist therefore it is of a great importance to me.

In the “Need” painting I have also pointed out the knotted problems and wishes of women where they refer to various ways to solve them. Few other artists have also reflected this situation in their works. This work with its clear appearance explains very deep concepts and discussions. In fact, the work is also an invitation to thoughts about what and couple of whys.

The other painting of mine titled “The paces of certainty” is an invitation of women to select one of the ways for better living that depicts totally different selection and attitude than the painting “Need”. Although my works are mostly similar to symbolism but I haven’t yet wanted to devote myself to imitate a special style. I also do not want my works, in terms of concept, to be focusing only on the lives of women.

Reflection of women’s problems and honors form part of my thoughts and emotions and in general it consists part of the activities of the women artistic centre. It means that it should not be expected that women artists and the women artistic centre should only reflect the life issues of women. I as the person in charge of Women Arts Center have the honor that the center has be formed with independent and free thinking artists. The activities of the center are based on inner artistic and cultural needs of society. Reflection of women’s deprivation which is part of the reality in our society attracts the viewer for a logical solution because inappropriate behaviors add it to its intense. As such, the women arts center with holding this exhibition as well as other activities which it will carry out encourages the active participation of women in various aspects, especially in culture and arts so that women together with men jointly share and remove the gaps created.
Anyway, establishment of women arts center through CCAA is a very significant step in developing the arts and culture in the country.

My request especially from the Ministry of Women Affairs, Ministry of Information and Culture, Ministry of Education and Higher Education is that they should provide chances for the improvement of women. I hope that with the cooperation of government such centers will increase throughout the country so that by removing women’s deprivation chances for artistic and cultural activities, values such as civil society, democracy and social justice will be possible.

I have displayed my artistic skills and talent from childhood (4 years of age) and used to paint much differently from my classmates who were the same age as I was. Still practicing in this profession is of much interest to me. Change in the motives of turning to this profession has happened the same time as my development which shows my evolution in this aspect.
As working in this field from the period of going to school was my only hobby when I entered the university I felt that the hobby has changed to my education field and forces me to put utmost efforts in gaining and improving professional skills. By gaining the membership in the CCAA the hobby and education turned to a responsibility and made me to use new artistic ways in expressing my high reflections.

From my point of view, my artistic works divided in to three following categories:

The realistic works having symbolic expression.
The works which totally have a two dimensional appearance where symbolic expression with using the two dimensional forms has been experienced.
The works in which the combination of these two (two and three dimensional appearance) has been created, and this combination has been applied in many other works of this exhibition.

I was in search of a way to be able to visualize my inner feelings but expressing these feelings in the limitation of visual realities had not been attractive and satisfied me. Therefore, painting the landscape, still life and the visual realities are only to practice to improve my technical skills. With turning to conceptual arts my efforts ended with proper results.

In CCAA with new artistic works, I feel myself differently and my visions are much different from the past and I enjoy the initiatives I take and think that these new happenings not only change my vision but also changed my feelings and have brought me new hopes.

I believe that searching and new experiences will finally change me to an independent artist and will introduce special methods to my society.

I as other artists want that my artistic works are acceptable for people but while developing artistic works I have never thought of satisfying the existing interests and the acceptance by majorities but for me respecting the honest expression, thoughts, emotions and my own feelings have been important.

In my new artistic experiences and new hopes I owe the CCAA which has provided us many different opportunities and holding such exhibitions will show our first steps and experience in this regard.

Before my membership with the CCAA I only painted based on my interest but now I work under the supervision of my respected teacher Mr. Rahraw Omarzad with verity of painting techniques especially contemporary painting.
In my view, the artistic activities of some women cause the encouragement of other women and opening the way for them. These centers are the only means for encouraging women to be artists and arts creators and bring about a new and bright future for the Afghanistan arts.

My artistic works which have been chosen for the exhibition thematically reflect the political issues in my country. In my view the problems which exist in individuals’, society and national life have arisen from incorrect politics of regimes and officials. I hope that the politics in the country will bring happiness and prosperity from now on rather than bringing misfortunes. From the view point of formation I have tried to use few colors and or use few color elements in a symbolic way on a dark background but in general I have used black and white which is mostly conceptual. It is obvious that feelings affected by unpleasant circumstances are also reflected here. In response to the question, what method of work I may possess in the future doesn’t matter to me much. What matters is what I have – to say, and how can I respond to me inner needs. This honestly responding in itself marks the work method I should possess. My special interest is to work in contemporary paintings, particularly conceptual arts. In my view, a conceptual artist should be well-aware, express his/her opinions and concepts through high vision and thoughts. Some think that to paint they should possess innate skills, but I believe that possessing well knowledge, open vision and awareness does not value less than innate talents and skills.

The other issue that I want to express is that the only person who has encouraged me in my professional aspects is my mother. There is no doubt that the agreement and encouragement of my father also have had particular roles in my improvement. I hope that with all these possibilities I could complete my higher education in this field and get my desire that I have long had, that is nothing but the progress of arts in my country, and its identification to the region and the rest of the world.

I believe that the today’s world has a particular attention to women and this can provide employment opportunities for educated women, therefore I also can foretell a bright future for myself.

I have been studying graphics since two years in Kabul University and besides I am interested in painting too. By getting the membership in CCAA I found my way through contemporary arts and as far as I can see my opinions and visions have also changed in that direction. It means that I know painting not only for its beauty but I have found it as the best way possible expressing my feelings, emotions, thoughts and therefore I have created some artistic works in this field.
I love to reflect my feelings about the pains of Afghan women and the society in my paintings and serve my country this way.

As we all know, good competitions, establishing arts centers and holding exhibitions can positively effect the improvement of women’s artistic skills and improvement of arts in the cuntry. Fortunately, the CCAA has been able to be a pioneer in this respect and attract the attention of world inhabitants to the arts in Afghanistan. Holding the first contemporary painting exhibition can be an important step in toward development of art in Afghanistan as well as an encouragement to Afghan women artists.

The exhibition of these arts may not be well-accepted for some of our people but we believe that with providing awareness to members of society regarding the contemporary arts, this new artistic activities will have well-acceptance. The cooperation from national and international agencies plays a vital role in this regard.
I have used many different methods in my works because I am in the initial phase of searching experience in this field and this has brought a variation in my work. There is no doubt that finding special ways and manners require vast efforts and experiences.

I finally got the opportunity to join the CCAA where I learnt modern ways of painting; my simple interest changed to a keen love towards arts and felt that I can be better than I am now. This doesn’t mean that I am not interested in realistic and traditional arts; I am interested in them a lot but what is important for me is to be a creative artist.

With the hope of an increased number of artists in our beloved country.

The number of my paintings are limited in this exhibition and issues reflected in them are focused on physical and internal attitude of human beings, who keep space from his/her real being and get involved in a series of internal annoyances and grieves. A bored human who strives for a real attitude and dignity has no other way but to leave his/her current personality, has been reflected in my paintings. Intellectual personalities who have lost their real intellectuality in the current era about whom I need to study, arts have direct relation with intellectual insight and deep expressing strength of human beings. I am choosing my style based on the concept that I should work, but I trying to select that style does not impose restriction/limitations the theme/concept and enable me to freely express my inner feelings.

In the first step the exhibition will reflect the new face of Afghanistan which will show the strength and merits of Afghan women and is a start to broadening and development of Afghanistan contemporary arts. I hope such artistic activities will increase in the future.

I had a special interest to arts from my childhood and after we sought refuge to Pakistan in year 2000 I started painting courses in Islamabad. Unfortunately, I couldn’t keep up with my classes more than two months. After we returned to my country, I was lucky to get the chance of joining the CCAA where I started my painting classes and got familiar with new ways of painting. The center has even caused a change in my life. In my view, the existence of such centers introduces Afghan artists to the world.

In my works I am reflecting issues about the lives of Afghan women and when I create my artistic works I determine the colors based on the subject where I can not deny the role of my feelings and reflections in it.

If you look at my paintings, lampshades cover my paintings. I have intended to show my dreams in the lampshades because lampshades are as nice and unsustainable like dreams. In my view, life is also similar to this.
I was introduced as a quiet and indifferent person at the beginning but after sometimes everyone knew me as an active, stimulated person. My artistic works also have a quiet appearance but they are very roaring inside. The lampshades are my inner roaring. What seem quiet and nice by appearance but point to ugliness and has a voice straggle and desire for change and invites the viewer to a change either; the change which I have long been waiting to gain and I am very attentive about the depth of my artistic works. To me painting is expression of deep concepts. The works of a contemporary painter with new, various ways and wishes he/she has helps me a lot in expressing my thoughts and concepts. I will continue my learning and efforts in this aspect to an extent where I would turn my dreams to reality and gain a special position in national and international level.

While studying in the faculty of Fine Arts - Kabul University, I also busy of painting in CCAA. The arts status in our country will improve when visions and thoughts of national and international centers are changed towards arts of women. It means that Afghan women both artists and arts learners not only need equipment and work tools but also need better opportunities for education, artistic visits and travels and familiarization with contemporary arts all over the world.

Now that I am preparing to attend the exhibition being organized by CCAA, in fact I would like to take a new step in contemporary arts because holding such exhibitions is an opportunity for modern arts to be introduced to the people of Afghanistan. It is also an honor for women to hold new painting exhibition for the first time. The themes of my paintings which express the issues related to Afghan women have roots in social and cultural problems of my country. I have always been the witness of their problems e.g. their suicide, their poverty, and their children and husbands’ death and forced marriages etc are the themes of my paintings. I have known myself a happy natured and active person and I am sure that these are the characters of a special artist. I hope that one day I would be able to try for increasing the number of female artists through opening such an artistic center.

I have reflected the issues like injustice and women rights in my paintings. I use dark colors in my works as it may explain gloomy days of life.
