An introduction to Centre for Contemporary Arts Afghanistan (CCAA)

The Centre for Contemporary Arts Afghanistan (CCAA) is an independent artistic and cultural center established in August 2004 by a number of young artists. The advisory committee of the centre was later formed by national and international artists and experts.
Initiatives and new approaches in arts are the needs that arise together with social and economic developments of human society. For instance, social and economic progress in the era of Tomorain of Herat resulted in Kamaluddin Behzad School to establish as a novel artistic development. Later on, progressive thoughts in the light of new economic-political structures paved the way for the establishment of the Industrial High School which is known to be a new move in promoting visual arts in the country. As such, economic, political, and social developments coupled with the broadening of country’s links with the world played a constructive role in the inception of Centre for Contemporary Arts Afghanistan (CCAA) as a part of the third phase of artistic development in the country.
The establishment of CCAA over the past five centuries, in fact, is the third phase of artistic development and is the new motion towards visual arts in the country.
In these new development, the CCAA provides equal opportunities for men and women to improve their artistic talents and upgrade their practical and theoretical knowledge of arts, and particularly have new artistic expressions, then these artists with possession of new artistic initiatives will be able to play significant role in art development and promotion of contemporary arts in the country.
The CCAA particularly invites independent, creative and committed artists of the country get this new movement, by their participation, to be strengthened qualitatively and quantitatively.
It is obvious that participation of these artists in the new artistic movement, from one hand will pave the ground for the sustainability, further development and everlasting of the arts, and on the other hand will expose their role in visualizing and shaping the globalized prospective of visualized arts of the country, and the competition with other countries in the world.
